Culture Beyond Boundaries: Ramita Shows The Way

The Cultural Ambassador..

India as a country stands tall in its rich culture, arts and tradition among the global peers. The intrinsic charm of Indian arts forms are sought after by the Westerners for its cultural and artistic values.

It's here Kumari Ramita Gowda, a classical Bharathanatyam dancer, comes into the picture who has taken the great art forms across the continents when she performed at various venues such as the Vokkaligara Parishat of America(VPA) convention, North California; VPA East Deepavali celebrations, Edison, New Jersey; and here at home at the 49th Namma Bengaluru Ganesha Utsava and many more at the age of 16.

Determined to preserve Indian Art and Culture..
Born on September 15th, 1996, Ramita Gowda is the daughter of Dr. Ramesh Gowda and Dr. Mamatha Gowda settled in New York. She is the grand daughter of late Justice Dodda Kale Gowda and Smt. Yashodamma Dodda Kale Gowda. Currently Ramita is in 11th grade in Livingston High School, New Jersey, USA. Active in all the extra-curricular activities in her school, she has been instrumental in starting an Indian club called Namaste America Club in her school.

With deep roots of religious cognition, she showed great interest in classical dance forms at an early age and Bharathanatyam is what caught her fascination. From there, began an exquisite journey into the world of dance as she started practicing South Indian classical dance under the guidance of Smt. Vijaylakshmi, at the age of 6.

Enthralled by a performance of Smt. Hema Panchamukhi at the Association of Kannada Kootas of America (AKKA) in 2010, Ramita expressed her desire to be trained under the gifted dancer.

Besides being a classical dancer and Bharathanatyam Guru, Panchamukhi has also established herself as a lead artiste in reputed Kannada serials and movies including acclaimed film 'America America' which won the national award for the best movie in 1996. She trained Ramita for the much awaited performance at the 49th Bengaluru Ganesha Utsava and has remained her Guru (teacher) ever since.

Ramita was recently in Bangalore for her 'Bharatanatyam Rangapravesha' in Ravindra Kalakshetra in the presence of Sri. Balagangadharanath Swamiji, the Pontiff of Adi Chunchanagiri Math, Retd. Justice Chandrashekhar, former Chief Minister H.D.Kumaraswamy, Well known Kannada film star Ambareesh and many other dignitaries. Ramita was blessed by her grand parents industrialist Sri. A. Mariyappa and Smt. Jayarathna who have also been a great source of inspiration and support to her in her achievements.
