UVA was one of the most successful and earliest models of Chevrolet in India. It was an impressive car and was due for a proper upgrade for many years. Finally Chevy has delivered this upgrade, SAIL U-VA, and oh boy, it is one heck of an upgrade. The car looks masculine and sleek at the same time. This hatchback seems to have adapted some of the exterior elements from its bigger brother Cruise. It also comes with a very powerful engine that will send many other cars in the same segment run for cover. Over all, this is a very impressive and much deserved upgrade.

‘Hawk Wing’ style front headlamps, shooting star style front fog lamps, and dual-port chrome grille with golden bowtie, all gives the car a bold stance of the front. Combine this with the sporty aerodynamic contours, flared wheel arches, and muscular rear flanks, and it is very clear what Chevy was trying to do with this car. Once we take a look at the interiors we can see that the car comes loaded with smart features. The dual tone Coffee Begie interiors are more spacious than before. It features a 60:40 folding rear seats and more than 25 storage spaces. The centrally mounted instrument panel comes with an inbuilt “Fun Wide” audio system with Bluetooth. Five separate Bluetooth devices can be paired to the system simultaneously. This gives the driver the option to engage in hands free mobile conversation while driving as well as playing your favourite songs from your mobile on the system. Also, last but not least, the car comes with all for power windows.

Chevy has also given much thought into the safety department. Apart from two air bags, ABS+EBD, impact proof bumpers, speed sensitive autolock, and other standard safety options, the most unique feature of the car is its centrally mounted fuel tank. The fuel tank comes encapsulated in a “Cross Structure” underneath the car. This serves the dual purpose of significantly increasing leg room, as well as keeping the tank extra protected in case of a collision. The car also comes with remote keyless entry. The two airbags mentioned above is standard in LS Trim model onwards.

The car comes with petrol and diesel engine variants. The 1.3 litre SMARTECH turbocharged diesel engine developed by GM Powertrain Europe is capable of producing a maximum power of 78 PS at 4000 rpm while producing a torque of 205 Nm at 1750 rpm. This engine produces an average mileage of 22.1 kilometre per litre. The other engine is a 1.2 litre SMARTECH Petrol variant, it is capable of producing a maximum power of 86 PS at 6000 rpm at a torque of 113 Nm at 5000 rpm. It also claims to give an impressive mileage of 18.2 kilometre per litre.

The car is presently available in seven different colours. Over all SAIL U-VA is a well thought, and well made vehicle which is a very welcome addition to the already impressive Chevrolet line up and a fitting upgrade to UVA.

Price: Rs. 4.4 Lakh – Rs. 7 Lakh
