Scala a Welcome Addition From Renault

We have, in one of the earlier articles, already mentioned about the aggressive growth strategy of Renault in India. The company seems to be on a race against time, bringing new and new models at a very rapid pace that the industry is failing to keep pace with it. A new addition to its model array is Scala. According to Renault, Scala is a sedan based on the Nissan Sunny and intended exclusively for the Indian market. Let us take a look at the car and see what it has in its arsenal to offer to the Indian mass.

Born from the strong alliance between Renault and Nissan, Scala is designed in Mumbai and built in Chennai, this is an all in all Indian car. It comes fitted with either a 1498 cc petrol engine or a 1461 cc diesel engine. The petrol engine is capable of producing a maximum power of 97.6bhp at the rate of 6000 rpm along with 134 Nm of torque, while the diesel engine churns out, with minimum effort, a maximum power of 84.8bhp along with 200 Nm of peak torque. The cars sport manual transmission and are expected to product impressive mileage in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol variant is supposed to deliver almost 17 kilometres per litre while the diesel version is expected to deliver almost 22 kilometres per litre.

All of us know Scala’s Sunny lineage, but we will still wonder how it is possible to be so similar yet so different. Even though the car retains the basic structure of the Sunny its differences are capable of making it look reasonably different from the former car. To begin with, the front bumper, hood, grill, and head lamps are designed with such carefulness that from this end the car looks nothing like Sunny. Towards the read the differences are a tad less and the car looks more so, so does from the sides. But that seems to be it. This is one brilliantly crafted machine that pays homage to its predecessor.

The car comes loaded, so to speak. You will understand this once you take a peek at the rather spacious inner side of the car. There is an illuminated start stop push button towards the center of the dashboard, a multifunctional smart key, Follow Me Home head lamps, electrically foldable and internally adjustable external wing mirrors, leather wrapped power steering wheel with mounted controls, a powerful AC unit with automatic climate and air quality control, rear adjustable AC vents, adjustable illumination on the meter cluster, a multi information display with varied up-to-date information for the driver, and more to command your attention. Well it is not just feature rich; it is safety conscious as well. The car comes loaded with safety features like dual front airbag, ABS + EBD with emergency brake assist, speed sensing auto door locks, rear window defroster with timer, anti pinch power window on driver-side, engine immobiliser, variable intermittent front wiper, smoked styled headlamps, and so on.

So, as mentioned before, all in all this is a rather brilliantly made car, worth every penny spent on it.
