It is not necessary to mention that Hyundai’s Sonata, like its Elantra, was not much of a success in India. There are many reasons for this, including the fact that the market was not ready then for luxury sedans like it then. Instead of dropping the model, Hyundai has decided to reintroduce it again in today’s much more evolved Indian automobile market. Like Elantra, the new Sonata has also received a major facelift and is now a noteworthy player in the luxury sedan segment. Let us take a look and see what all has changed with this new car.

The exterior of the car has completely been redesigned following the new Fluidic style scheme of Hyundai. Its body lines that are inspired from the kinetic force of nature and its all new grill which has drawn inspiration from water flow, all gives it a shimmering look with a harmony. Not just that, the designers have always kept safety and style in mind when designing this beautifully looking machine. The elegantly stretched tail and headlamp also adds grace to the fluidic look of the car. Speaking of headlamps, they are not just another headlamps but cat-eye shaped high intensity xenon headlamps that is highly functional as well as immensely beautiful. The very pleasing to the eye tail lamps feature energy-saving LED illumination. LED lamps on the wing mirrors and the fog lamp make sure that they enhance visibility while adding extra style to this already stylish machine. The car also comes with a choice of wheels ranging from 16 to 18 inches that compliments its sporty look.

The car’s interior design is posh, elegant, emotionally driven, and optimally practical. Fabric and leather interior options are available to choose from. Driver seat is designed to give utmost comfort to the driver and can be adjusted eight ways at the touch of a button. The supervision cluster is highly visible and its readability is enhanced by a vacuum fluorescent display which lights up in purposeful blue. All the required information, including the number of kilometres the car will run on the fuel that is left in the tank, are available at a glance. Its fully automatic air conditioner, with fully adjustable rear air ventilation, will also help enhancing the riding experience. An audio system that also allows plugging in of mobile devices including iPod is a welcome addition in the car.
The car comes with three different power terrains, a 1,998cc Theta MPi engine that produces a maximum power output of 165 PS at 6200rpm, a 2,359cc Theta MPi engine that delivers 178 PS at 6000rpm and a GDI version produces 201 PS at 6300rpm. Six speed manual or six speed automatic transmissions are available to choose from. By adding Dual Continously VariableValve Timing (D-VTVT) technology to the mix, the company has also managed to offer a reasonably good mileage to the car.
