Check out why the Orange floats ?

Kids are always into discovering new things, how many times have you found a kid who is not eager to find out new things? I haven’t come across one kid too in my life. Kids are a bundle of energy that never diminishes even after failing a thousand times. They are the heroes of their own uncomplicated world.

But in this fast paced world how much time do we have for our kids? Are we allowing them to experiment with things, to explore things that are simple yet entertaining? The answer for this would be 'NO' because, we do not have the time to spend with our own kids, we do not have the time to nurture the flowers that will bloom into an orchard. It’s sad but true.

Now it is time to make up for all this irrespective of what we have done all these days. Let’s try and answer those curious minds with a few simple experiments that could entertain children and elders alike. This vacation you don’t have to look elsewhere for entertainment as its all in your homes all you have to do is look for it and get set for action.
We all know Oranges are good for health and we do not have to wash it before eating too :P but what happens when an orange is placed in water? Does an orange float or sink? It’s a simple question isn’t, but the question is how simple is it?

The answer lies in a small fun density science experiment for kids( and some of us too).

What will you need:

1)An orange
2)A big deep bowl
3)Water


What To Do :

1.Fill the bowl with water.
2.Put the orange in the water and watch what happens.
3.Peel the skin from the orange and try the experiment again, check out what happens this time?

What Exactly Happens

The first time you put the orange in the bowl of water it probably floated on the surface, after you peel of the skin however, it probably sunk to the bottom, why?

The skin of an orange is full of tiny air pockets which help give it a lower density than water, making it float to the surface. Removing the rind (and all the air pockets) from the orange increases its density higher than that of water, making it sink.

Density is the mass of an object relative to its volume. Objects with a lot of matter in a certain volume have a high density, while objects with a small amount of matter in the same volume have a low density.

Hope you had some fun with this experiment with the oranges now eat up the
oranges ans stay healthy until I return with a new one to entertain one and all alike.
